Stand up!!

We are the future!

What has happened with this generation?! WARNING: a bit of a rant coming on but I promise it’s from a positive background! We, the future, have dropped the ball in some serious ways!! The idea that each generation would become better than the last really no longer applies! Not to be a downer, but more so to shed some light on things that we as this new age generation should be doing better at. We have come so far with positive, powerful thinking… young kids are more involved with politics, people are caring more about equality towards humanity, we are getting better at being more mindful of global warming, racial issues, bigotry. Mental health issues have been spoken about more, so that we can be more educated. Charities and prosperous organizations are on the rise. Solar power is being used more than ever, some countries solely relying on it! We had our first African American president and our first woman candidate ran for office. Minimum wage has gone up, education is on the rise. More treatments for illnesses and new found medications. In many ways we have come very far and are doing a lot better than the older generations but if we truly look back on the times the previous generations had, things were much more simple and beautiful! Woodstock, for example, is one of the most legendary moments in history. Conceived as “Three Days of Peace & Music”, more than 400,000 people of all different backgrounds joined together from all over the country to promote peace, love and equality. No fights over racial discrimination like nowadays, no judgement, no hate, just love and togetherness as children and siblings of this earth. Me myself only wishes that I could have lived in those times, but we as family of this earth should all strive to be like the hippies of Woodstock today in our lives. More peace, love for one another, compassion, integrity, loyalty as humans to each other and the earth! The internet is another one. The internet became more widely used in the 90’s and yes the internet is amazing. We have more knowledge of the world because of it. We can keep in contact with the people we love from all of the world due to it. We can communicate our opinions like I do with this blog because of it. There are so many wonderful things that the internet has brought but also as a society we have become so reliant on it in a negative way. Instead of verbally communicating with each other we are stuck on our phones. Cheating has been on the rise each year because of how easy it is to access anyone, although that’s more of a personal flaw to me then an internet flaw, but it’s still something negative due to the ever so easy accessibility of the net. Children are glued to their Ipads instead of going outside and playing like most of us did when we were kids. Those were the best times, going to the park with friends. Bike rides, snow ball fights, camping. Kids nowadays don’t really know of the simple pleasures of being outdoors with their friends. Health issues and obesity are on the rise as well since our young generation just sits inside watching movies, television or playing video games. Speaking of health issues, sickness has never been so common. The older generation never really had to worry about cancer. In the 20’s, the cool thing to do was smoke. All the pretty flapper girls running around town with their “bitch” sticks. (For anyone who doesn’t know that term, those are really long skinny cigarettes) Do you think they worried about if each puff would eventually bring on a horrible illness?! No, because back then they didn’t really know too much of illness. A lot being brought on by all the pollution in the air getting worse and worse over the generations. All the horrible chemicals in our food now. Back then they grew everything organically. Raised their own cattle, grew their own fruits and vegetables. People rode horses, not like us today with millions of cars on the roads. Another big one for me is relationships. I am by no means corny. Never dreamed of my prince charming as a child but I always wanted marriage! Most of the older generation are on 40+ years of marriage. Companions in life, choosing to stick by each others side no matter what they go through. We are no longer like those old lovers and that to me is one of the major downfalls of our generation!!
The divorce rate is at 50% and growing and why? because nowadays giving up when things become too difficult is common, the mindset of “eh i’ll just get a divorce” is rampant, selfishness prevails over caring about the others needs, ego takes over, thinking the grass would be greener with someone else, excitement of a new relationship when things become routine in your current one, feelings are being lost easily, hearts having room for multiple people instead of just one. The thinking of “he/she is hotter and more fun, i’ll leave my partner for them”. True love for just one person is fickle nowadays which is so heartbreaking for us as a generation. I know i’m old school in the love department but the thought of one love for the rest of your life, someone to build with, sticking it out through thick and thin, being partners in crime and go through the time we have on the earth together is such a privilege and blessing to receive! It’s sad that as a generation most people just bounce from one person to the next. Divorce use to be such an awful thing and now people are on their second or third. Tragic really! When I see a cute little old couple holding hands walking down the street, it makes me happy and sad. Happy love like that exists, sad that we as this new generation has tainted it! Another major disappointment for us as a generation was when Trump became president. From amazing men like Abraham Lincoln who brought forth the emancipation of slaves. George Washington who played a major role in economics. Franklin Roosevelt who helped Americans survive The Great Depression through creating the Emergency Banking Act. Thomas Jefferson with the Louisiana Purchase, getting Napoleon France out of debt and more land for America to grow. JFK with his integrity cutting out corruption in labour unions, mobs and crime. Jimmy Carter with his continuous work in finding peaceful solutions for international conflicts and to advance human rights. Last but not least my favourite and big crush, Barack Obama… Obama was not just the first African American president in history, he was so much more. Consistently full of class, he rescued the country from The Great Recession cutting unemployment rates to less than half. Helped with the Affordable Care Act which provides health insurance to millions of uninsured Americans. Ended the war in Iraq. Began the aiding of getting troops out of Afghanistan. Helped over 5 million people living in America illegally avoid deportation and get legal working permits. Boosted fuel efficiency standards for cars. Improved school nutrition for kids. Signed the Fair Pay Act to combat pay discrimination against women. Expanded stem cell research to improve groundbreaking results for cancer. Those are just to name a few, all the while being an amazing loyal husband and father with never a scandal! Yes, I know I have a serious crush on Obama.. i’m proud to say it! From those strong and integral men, we went to a man full of cheating and sexual harassment scandals, racism, hate, discrimination, a compulsive liar, his embarrassing and offensive tweets, his policy to separate migrant children from their families leaving them alone and orphaned, his denial and ignorance of global warming, his want for war not peace, his STUPID and preposterous wall. Did you know that he wanted to make the wall see through so there can be visibility if the “Mexicans” want to try to get over or sell drugs. LIKE IS THIS MAN FOR REAL?! We go from an amazing noble man to this deceitful and in my opinion quite unintelligent man! Yes he is a great businessman, I will give him that one thing, but that does not make him a good man and sadly the people of America are the ones who voted for him! That is the biggest step down to our generation! We as a society should be fighting against men like Trump, not electing him to be a president! I have seen many post, memes and articles about 2019 being the year of love, positivity, joyful abundance and no more negativity but if we as this new generation keep all these negative traits going there will be no change! It is up to us to fulfill the statement that each generation gets better. We need to put in the work to make that happen, for ourselves and the world. We need to strive to not have personal traits like Trump. Live in peace and harmony like the hippies of days past. Stay true to the values of marriage and love like the older generation. Get outdoors and enjoy the earth like we did as kids. For all the positivity we send out with words, we also need to put them into action!!

Peace, love & let’s strive to make the world a better place xoxo

I do like the manner in which you have framed this specific difficulty and it does present me a lot of fodder for consideration. On the other hand, coming from just what I have personally seen, I basically hope when the feedback pile on that people today remain on issue and in no way get started on a soap box regarding the news of the day. Still, thank you for this exceptional piece and even though I can not go along with the idea in totality, I regard the standpoint. Therese Lucius Ensign
