Ode to the loves of my life!

I’ve been a writer since I was a young girl. I write for everything… just to vent, letters to loved ones when I verbally couldn’t seem to vocalize what I was feeling. Memorializing experiences that were important to me, hard times or my travels so I could transport back to that moment in my mind. Today it’s focused on my gratitude. I was listening to one of my favourite bands The Cranberries and one of my favourite songs of theirs is called “Ode to my family”, it’s a really beautiful song I urge you to listen to it if you haven’t. It inspired me to write about my own personal ode, so this is an ode to the loves of my life!
I have started this tradition before I go to sleep to write things I am grateful for. They are always the same… my parents, my friends and my son (my dog). We all have our own things that we are so thankful for and couldn’t imagine life without, those are mine! My parents are beyond wonderful. I am a lucky girl to have them! So kind, loving, thoughtful and sweet. Always there for me and their loved ones no matter what the circumstance! So wise, so responsible, so smart, so strong. It’s been a tough couple of years for us individually and as a family but they are always so optimistic, consistently having time to be goofy! That’s a big thing in my family, our sarcastic jokes and my mother unending laughter! Once she starts it takes a while for her to stop, usually ending with laughing so hard she cries. Runs in the family!! We appreciate the silliness! My parents relationship is such a goal of mine. They have gone through a lot but never give up. They always work as a team and are best friends. They are better together than apart. From two young teenagers with a baby and having no one to help them in life but each other to becoming such amazing adults. Having all they have now because they worked so hard together and supported each other in life all while being the best parents to me. They always have and still do put my needs before their own, no matter how much I tell them not to! Whoever is graced to have them in their lives are so lucky, especially myself! Mom and pops, I love you and am so unbelievably proud of you more than you will ever know!! One thing I hear almost on a daily basis from coworkers, family or others friends is how lucky I am to have three amazing friendships that have lasted over twenty years!! It’s rare nowadays, unfortunately. I have always wanted siblings and who knew this small town girl moving to the big city when she was sixteen would end up getting three sisters! We’ve literally gone through everything together like families do. All of the firsts.. clubs, love, break ups. Such monumental moments.. travelling, living abroad, life hardships, engagements, marriage and hopefully soon they will make me an aunt!! We support each other through everything even if we don’t always agree. Being a two hour car ride away from them for a couple of years, to now being back in the city has made me realize how important these friendships truly are to me! Absence really does make the heart grow fonder. Unless I one day move to New York like I have always wanted, then sorry girls but i’m sure they’d be fine with that choice because it’s only an hour flight away and they’d have a free place to stay.. moochers! They’re all so thoughtful and sweet. We are always there for each other. We celebrate each others joys like they are our own. We feel each others sadness like we are going through it as well! We are family! It’s so comforting to know that I will have them as my sisters forever and we will go through life together. I love you babes! My dog is like my life partner and I know that sounds weird to some people, i’m sure my mom is gonna think “oh pls, Shaira” in her head when she reads this but it’s true! Pets become your children! I have to take care of him in all aspects. He’s my roommate.. he sleeps with me, he wakes up with me, he’s sad when I leave and so happy when I get home. I saw a quote once that said “animals are the only things that love you more than they love themselves” and I couldn’t agree more! The comradery and unconditional love from this dog makes my heart melt. I’m sure that’s just a slight touch of how it feels to be a parent to children. He’s been by my side through some very tough times in my life and I tell you I don’t think I would’ve been able to go through it without him! Just the love he exudes gives me so much happiness and comfort. Otis is definitely a pain in the butt sometimes but I couldn’t imagine my life without him. Seeing that cute face and his little bum (i have a strange obsession with my doggys butt!) and watching the bond he has made with my dad is literally the cutest thing! My home wouldn’t be a home without him in it.
Life is tough sometimes that’s for sure, sadly that’s life. It can get easy to think of the negative as opposed to the positives, we are human after all! However, I think we should all try more to focus on all of the beautiful things we have in it and drown out all of the toxicity in the background. Whatever it is to us individually. I found this wonderful post that encouraged me to write or think daily about the things I am grateful for and it’s made such a difference practicing it in my daily life. I encourage you all to do it as well! It puts a smile on your face, it reminds you to nourish our most important relationships and just brings the positivity out in our lives that can sometimes be so routine and at times difficult. Times flies so appreciate all the wonderful things you have and could not live without. Those three are mine and i’m so thankful I am the lucky girl who gets to have them in her life!

    I am using a multiple of plugins. I have done a coding course to be familiar with the process but if you go to WordPress and install a theme it does most of the work for you. Bluehost is quite helpful as well!! Good luck on your blogging journey xo
