Career info
When I was younger, all I dreamt about was being a fashion stylist or designer. Clothes were, and still are, some of my very favourite things. At nineteen, I flirted with the idea of making a bold move to New York to chase that dream. But instead of taking the leap, I chose the safer path—my second love, hair styling.
Growing up in the ’80s with European parents meant that passion took a backseat to practicality. Back then, choosing a career was about stability, not dreams. Moving to another country for school wasn’t just frowned upon; it was out of the question. A part of me wanted to do it anyway, but the weight of being an only child, the guilt of leaving, kept me grounded.
Now, six trips to New York later, my love for the city hasn’t faded. If anything, it’s only grown stronger. It was my first love, and in many ways, it still is. One day, I’ll make it there—even if it’s just for a month. And when I do, you’ll be the first to know.
Putting fashion on pause, I enrolled in hair school at twenty-one. Shortly after, I landed an assisting position at a top salon in Toronto and soon became a senior stylist. Hair was always in my blood—a family trade I dabbled in since I was fifteen. Creativity, colour, transformation—I was hooked. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about making people feel beautiful. About giving them a moment of joy in a world that can sometimes be too heavy. Twenty five years later, hair styling still holds a massive piece of my heart.
But here’s what I’ve learned: We don’t have to pick just one passion. Life isn’t a single path; it’s a collection of many. I can do hair. I can play with fashion. I can write—something I’ve done since before I can even remember. Our journey may not unfold exactly as we planned, but that doesn’t mean we can’t express our passions in different ways, in different seasons of our lives.
At the core of it all, I’ve realized that my passions aren’t just about beauty or style. They’re about making people feel good. A killer outfit, a fresh blowout, a heartfelt piece of writing—they all have the power to lift spirits. And that’s what truly matters.
So if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: You don’t have to choose just one thing. Wear all the hats. Chase all the dreams. Do what makes you happy—in whatever way that looks like for you.
I still don’t know exactly where I’m going, and I’m okay with that. I used to think I needed a road map, a clear plan, a detailed destination. But maybe the beauty of life isn’t in the knowing—it’s in the discovering. It’s in waking up every day, chasing the things that set your soul on fire, and allowing yourself to be surprised by where it all leads.
Maybe life isn’t meant to be a perfect, linear journey. Maybe it’s meant to be a series of beautiful, chaotic, unexpected turns that bring us exactly where we’re supposed to be. So I’ll keep walking forward, chasing joy, embracing the unknown. And no matter where I end up, I know I’ll find pieces of myself along the way.
